Taking care of your body is the best way to stay healthy, right? If you’re sick, take medicine. If you’re heavy, exercise. But then why do we still live in a world with sickness and angst when all of our problems are so “easily” solved? It’s because there is more to health than what you do with your body. If you are not satisfying your mental health, your body will find ways to remind you.
I believe that we all know our own truth. Inside, we know what we want for ourselves. The lies we tell ourself to stay on target, to act as we should and fall in line, those are the poisons slowly eating away at our minds. We are told from a very early age that we must know what we’re doing and where we’re going before we walk out of highschool. This intense pressure to satisfy an unseen overlord, to remain “in-line” with these invisible expectations can act like a rot. Spreading, consuming, and eating away everything inside until all that’s left is bitterness.
The link between mental and physical health is very real and incredibly powerful. Ignoring one won’t mend the other. Infact, by ignoring one aspect of your health, you threaten the strength of everything. There are so many pieces that make-up a healthy person, and this shouldn’t suggest that having a strong mental health will save you from needing to see a doctor, but you can’t ignore your own mental wellness.
The body will speak to you when you’re ready to listen. Constantly sick when thinking about your work? Maybe it’s time for a new job. Are you upset, exhausted, or unable to sleep when considering the day to come? Maybe it’s time for a major life change? Don’t run from yourself, shutting out the whisper of your body.
